We are lucky enough to won a collection of rare, original lithographs after paintings by Francis Bacon of his closest friends made in collaboration with Galerie Maeght, Paris in the 1960s. We are currently showing them in collaboration with Artsy.net; pairing the works with photographs of the sitters; reinforcing the sense of intimacy between Bacon and his subjects. It includes portraits of his lover George Dyer, friends Henrietta Moraes and Isabel Rawsthorne as well as three studies for a triptych in oils of the great British artist and Bacon's one-time friend, Lucian Freud.
Francis Bacon (1909–92) was an English painter, often described as a maverick, who rejected the preferred artistic style of abstraction of the era, in favour of a distinctive and disturbing realism. From the mid-1940s, his work met with critical success and his reputation was established. Today, he is recognised as one of the most important painters of the 20th Century.
